Changing the chart bar colors in PowerPoint can sometimes be a bit confusing. Here are some tips.
Change the color for one column, bar or section of a chart
- To change colors for the chart on one slide:
- Right-click the slide, point to OptionPower Properties and click Chart
- Set the Coloring method to User Defined
- Click OK
- Double-click the chart (in 2010+ click Edit Existing)
- Click the data point you wish to change
- Right-click and click Format Data Point
- Select a color and click OK
To change the colors on all charts (for charts with up to 6 bars)
- Click the Design tab
- Click Colors, Create New Theme Colors
- OptionPower uses the color for Accent 1 as the default color for all bars, columns, etc. on a chart. If you have a pie chart or have set the coloring method for the chart to Vary by Point OptionPower uses the following:
Accent 1 – datapoint 1
Accent 2 – datapoint 2
Hyperlink – datapoint 3
Followed Hyperlink – datapoint 4
Text/Background Light 2 – datapoint 5
Text/Background Dark 2 – datapoint 6
