How do I fix an error with the OptionPower hardware set-up wizard?

Error message: "An error occurred while running the OptionPower hardware setup wizard."

Problem: When a user attempts to run the OptionPower Hardware menu, the following error message appears: "An error occurred while running the OptionPower hardware setup wizard" with an OK button. The hardware menu will not appear.

Cause: The user is running a 64 bit version of PowerPoint.

You can check this by opening PowerPoint and selecting File/Account/About PowerPoint. At the top of the "About PowerPoint" Window the PowerPoint version number will be displayed followed by the words 32-bit or 64-bit. 64-bit PowerPoint is not compatible with OptionPower 7.1 and earlier versions. These versions of OptionPower are 32-bit software applications.

Solution: Uninstall OptionPower. Uninstall Office. Reinstall Microsoft Office as a 32 bit application rather than a 64 bit application.
