PowerPoint crashes frequently when viewing a slide show and it takes several seconds for the chart to appear after polling has been closed.

Cause: Presenter view is enabled in PowerPoint’s slide show settings. This problem may occur in any version of Office but it is more prevalent in Office 2016 since Use Presenter View is the default setting.

Solution: Click the Slide Show tab, uncheck the box for Use Presenter View.
